In an atmospheric performance of dance and music, six atua wāhine (female deities) control and release the winds of the world.
Inspired by a Kāi Tahu tradition, as told by Teone Taare Tikao, Onepū has been co-created by celebrated choreographer and dancer Louise Potiki Bryant, who is also the show’s video artist.
Adding to this expression of mana wāhine (the intrinsic power of women), is a musical landscape performed by composer, vocalist and taonga pūoro artist Ariana Tikao.
This work from Atamira Dance Company is a meditation on the different qualities brought to us on the winds of each these mighty atua wāhine.
Joining Louise in this spirited and powerful work are the five other wind dancers – Rosie Tapsell, Tanu Richardson, Jasmin Canuel, Presley Ziogas and Imogen Tapara.
Embracing this ancient story through light, video, sound and movement, Onepū will stir deep emotions and take audiences to another place and time
